Near Bongaigaon in western Assam, the foundation stone was laid for a girls orphanage. Together with a new institution – the Ursuline Sisters – a program for the orphaned, abducted and neglected children in the area will be developed and realized there in the next few years. The project is in line with Childaid Network’s vision of tackling the problem of street children. Where people with very low education and very limited resources have been uprooted by ethnic conflicts, they cannot escape the vicious cycle of poverty alone. Then the kids are especially vulnerable. Many suffer from inadequate care, many still do not go to school. Unprotected and promoted, they are at high risk of being abducted, enslaved, or otherwise exploited. This program is designed to tackle the problem at the root. With valuable experience from existing projects in neighboring regions, reliable contacts and local partners, we are well prepared to implement the project in a targeted manner. A special thanks to our major sponsors for this project!
