Good education is the key to sustainable change

Still every second child in the world does not learn to read, write and do arithmetic properly. Although school enrolment rates have risen in recent generations, the quality of teaching is often extremely poor. Even after six years of instruction, 50% of the 12-year-olds cannot master a simple division and cannot read a simple text. Marginalised groups, migrants, ethnic minorities and girls are particularly affected.

The promise of good education for all must be kept

As early as 2000, all the world’s heads of government promised their girls and boys a free and good basic education. School attendance is compulsory everywhere. But in reality there is still a huge gap between aspiration and reality: poverty and child labour still prevent many from attending school. Poor teacher training, rapid population growth, a lack of infrastructure, multilingual target groups and insufficient budgets all contribute to the fact that learning success lags far behind the curricula and proclaimed goals. We must change this!

258 Children and Adolescents do not go to school.
Every second child does not learn to read, write and calculate properly.
The proportion of girls in secondary education worlwide is 37,5% in the poorest countries of the world.

Our principle: Do not replace the state, but improve the system

We want to bring good school education to all children in our project areas. In view of the number – after all, we are talking about many millions of young people – this will only succeed in partnership with the government, in cooperation with efficient partners and with innovative methods. Our focus over the next two to three years will be on developing effective consortia, with companies, experienced NGOs and strong consultants preparing the further scaling of the programmes. In parallel, we are testing the use of digital methods. The role of the teacher can change to that of a learning coach if good content is provided via digital communication channels. The diversity of languages in our target areas is a particular challenge

Our goal until 2022

Give 6.000 forgotten and disenfranchised children access to education. You can help us!

Our project approach for children is holistic

For education to reduce poverty, schools must prepare children well for life. This requires the interaction of many factors. In our various projects we have developed a model of how school can be effective. The following facets play an important role:

  • early fostering
  • child centred pedagogy
  • dedicated teachers
  • good learning materials
  • holistic education
  • education is society mission
